I’ve been thinking a lot about our country this past week. So at the risk of sounding like my father when I was 10 years old, I’d like to go on a bit of a rant. This particular statue started this train of thought, that we are in an amazing time in our nations history to really be a part of something that will shape this country’s influence and image to the rest of the world. In the last 3-4 years we have done more for civil rights and human equality then we had done for 35 years previously. We have done more to limit executive power that the previous administration expanded than any other time in history since Lincoln. We are finally re-examining the constitution and starting to realize its elasticity and potential for good… Instead of harm. I’m hopeful, and I’m seeing a shift. But at the same time I’m slightly annoyed with my fellow citizens. We complain and shout, we preach equality and smaller government while we blame the government for everything that has gone wrong. The good politicians want you to understand what is actually going on, while the power hungry, status quo craving politicians rely on your ignorance to get what they want. They stand up and preach atop their soap boxes, promise a better tomorrow, while never telling us HOW. The one thing we can do people, is be responsible. LEARN about what’s going on, listen to politicians and check the facts. Research our history and your OWN states laws and policies before you decide what it is that’s important to you. I am proud that we are such a young nation with much to learn, and more years to grow. But let’s not be the pot head teenage who never moves out of our parents basement. Let’s grow up a bit. Remember how lucky you are this weekend to live in a country you CAN change the fate of. We have already done an amazing job these last couple of years… Let’s keep it up.
